Hemming and hemming...

Image
Greetings! I know its been a while since my last post, however I am back!! And today I will show you that perseverance pays off, after 3 hours of hemming and pleating, the skirt is finally on! First, I cut out the basic shape of the skirt... Then, after a lot of fiddling and measuring, I lightly tacked together the pleats on the top of the skirt, so that the width of the skirt top fitted and matched the bodice bottom length. Next, I stitched that together with the bottom of the bodice. This part was particularly fiddly, so if for whatever reason you want to recreate it, take care and go slowly! Lastly, hem the around of the skirt, making sure all the stitches are neat. I decided to do mine in white, to add a little detail. Now its really taking shape! (Its raken ages but its worth it) Yours, The Miniature Studio

Hot under the collar...

Image
Greetings! Tonights update: the collar! I finally neatened up the traditional square collar and made sure it was hemmed from back to front. Can I just point out that even this took several attempts; I first started by using white thread, which could be seen. Secondly hemmed it inside out! After many embarrassing mistakes, and several hours later, we achieved this... (I know that the stitches are unneat and not tidy but in the early hours of the morning they were the best I could do!!) Hold yourself together...

Image
Greetings! Good news: I have almost finished it! I have now used "invisible stitching" to hold the fabric to the Cocktail Umbrella. This means when the Parasol is collapsed, it folds in with the framework of the Umbrella itself. All that's left to do is add a trim and a handle grip - we are so close!! Very exciting! As you can see, the method I am using means that there are just tiny stitches from the top, but longer stitches on the bottom. This method is quite tedious, however it delivers good results. Taking shape...

Greetings! Update: I have sewed a 'Dart' into the circle so it fits snug with the cocktail Umbrella  I also snipped a little hole into the top of the fabric so it slips over the top!! Its starting to take shape... Yours, The Miniature Studio

Introduction to side project

Greetings! Now I am going to do my first side project. My aim is to make a miniature parasol alongside the Over Dress Project.  It would be really nice to have one for the final photoshoot!! Things I am using: Cocktail Umbrella Circle of floral fabric Needle & Cotton thread Pins Lace trim Follow along if you wish and I will try to keep you updated!!! Yours, The Miniature Studio

Guess What? A pattern!

Image
Yes, I know! At the start of this project, I decided that I would include pattern making in it. It has helped a lot! This is from the top part of the Over Dress.   The triangles show the darts I will include in the final piece! As you can see there is a seam allowance.  For reference, this is 1/6th scale, big enough to fit an average Barbie Doll.  Yours, The Miniature Studio

Introduction to the Project...

Greetings !    This is my first project on my blog and I am happy you could join me along the way.    This "over dress" is inspired by many period dramas and historically accurate paintings and outfits.    For the first time I am creating a pattern, which hopefully in a short while will be available to you!    It is loosely based upon Demelza's dresses in the BBC drama, Poldark. I loved her character and decided to try and create my own. I hope you enjoy the journey! Yours, The Miniature Studio
